Don’t be fooled, the fighting spirit still lays dormant and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier’s loyalty is not to be tested. Nowadays, however, breeders have worked to breed out most of the fighting spirit and focus on the friendly, loyal, family-oriented characteristics of the breed. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier had the advantage of the punishing jaws of a Bulldog and ferocious attitude of a Terrier. After the criminalization of dog fighting, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier continued to be bred to fight in underground rings versus other dogs or against a pack of rats. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a stout, dense, muscular terrier with a short, wide snout that was originally bred to brawl. ![]()
